Zoning Information
Use the zoning map or tables below to find the zoning of any property within Hillsborough’s planning jurisdiction. These items are manually updated once a year, or when there is a major change. Please contact us if data appears outdated or you have questions.
If you are not sure whether you are within Hillsborough’s planning jurisdiction, visit our Jurisdiction and Service Areas page.
For detailed zoning information, visit the town's interactive online zoning map. An instruction document for using the map is available below.
Initiation of process — the property owner most commonly initiates a rezoning. However, rezoning also may be requested by the Board of Commissioners, Planning Board, Board of Adjustment or any resident of the town or its extraterritorial jurisdiction.
Public hearing — the Board of Commissioners is required to hold a public hearing to consider a property owner, applicant or representative’s proposal to use land for purposes other than those permitted by the current zoning classification. The public hearing is scheduled; the time, date and place are advertised; and a sign is posted at the site. The applicant and public may present information to the board at the hearing.
Completion of process — following a public hearing, the request is sent to the Planning Board for review. The board votes and sends its recommendation to the Board of Commissioners, which takes final action on the request.
